Ganesh Chaturthi 2024 Rituals (Ganesh Chaturthi Puja Vidhi)
It is believed to do Ganesha Puja during Madhyanha time because Lord Ganesha was born during this time. In the Hindu system of dividing time, Madhyahna Kala is recognized as the point of midday.
In Hindu time measurement, the duration from sunrise to sunset is split into five equal segments. Pratahkala, Sangava, Madhyahna, Aparahna, and Sayankal constitute the five distinct segments. Lord Ganapati is placed and revered on Ganesha Chaturthi in the Madhyahna phase.
According to tradition, it is crucial not to gaze at the moon at specific times during Ganesh Chaturthi. According to Hindu mythology, if someone spots the moon, they will face allegations of theft and be shamed by society unless they recite a specific mantra. It seems that this happened when Lord Krishna was wrongly accused of stealing a precious gem. Sage Narada speculated that Krishna saw the moon on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi (the same day as Ganesh Chaturthi) and received a curse as a result. Moreover, anyone who laid eyes on the moon afterwards would also be doomed in a comparable manner.
Every day, Lord Ganesh’s idols are worshipped with an evening “aarti”, a ritual of worship. During grand street processions on Anant Chaturdashi, the biggest Ganesh statues, showcased to the public, are carried out and immersed in water amidst traditional drumming and fireworks. A lot of individuals perform the immersion of their idol in their homes long before the actual date. Nevertheless, these immersions occur only on specific days – one and a half, three, five, and seven days following Ganesh Chaturthi.
In Puranic stories, Lord Krishna was wrongfully charged with stealing the valuable gem called Syamantaka. Sage Narada stated that Lord Krishna acquired Mithya Dosha because he gazed at the moon on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi, after witnessing his struggles.
Narada told Krishna that Ganesha had placed a curse on Chandra, stating that anyone who witnesses the moon on Shukla Chaturthi in Bhadrapada would be cursed with Mithya Dosha, resulting in dishonour.
